Welcome back, Ravenswood!
We are excited to be back to school for what is sure to be a great school year! In dance class, we will move, play, explore, create, perform, learn and DANCE!
Students should come to dance class prepared to move and participate fully. To help them move safely they should wear socks, bare feet, or dance shoes (clean socks are provided for those that need, and dance shoes are provided by the school for specific units of study in jazz, tap and ballet styles). Students are also encouraged to wear athletic clothing or dance wear, such as leggings, joggers, gym shorts, t-shirts, Ravenswood gear, etc. for ease of movement and range of motion.
Check out the curriculum page to learn more about your child's dance class.

What does dance education look like in elementary school?
In dance class your child will learn many different dance styles and techniques, all while focusing on the creative process of dance-making, dance performance, responding to dance work, and making connections between dances and between dance and other disciplines.
Performances: Performances are a natural part of the dance process. Each class will receive the opportunity to perform in one of the three Showcases (Fall, Winter or Spring) throughout the school year. Information with details on dates and times will be sent home with students.
The Ravenswood dance program is aligned to the National Core Arts Standards, the Illinois Arts Learning Standards for Dance, and the Chicago Public School’s Guide to Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Check out our curriculum page to find the major goals of the dance program.
